Every February, 15 Major League teams pack up and head to Florida for spring training, and the Grapefruit League turns the whole state into a baseball road trip. The ballparks are small, the seats are close, and the weather in late February and March is about as good as Florida gets. Here’s every team, every ballpark, and the smartest way to see as many games as possible.

💬 Danny’s Take
I live in Tampa, so spring training is right in my backyard. I’ve watched the Red Sox take on the Yankees at Steinbrenner Field, and one of my favorite memories is driving down to Fort Myers with my dad to watch our Red Sox. If you’re a baseball fan, plan a Florida trip around spring training at least once. The weather alone is worth it.
⚡ Quick Facts
Games start: February 19, 2027 (all teams)
Opening Day: March 25, 2027
Teams in Florida: 15 (the Grapefruit League)
Best base: Tampa Bay, with 5 teams within about an hour
Book by: December or January for the best hotel rates
⚠️ Heads Up: 2027 Lockout Risk
MLB’s collective bargaining agreement expires on December 1, 2026, and players have warned a lockout is possible. In 2022 a lockout pushed spring training games back several weeks. Until a new deal is signed, book refundable hotels and flights. We’ll update this page as soon as there’s news.

Spring Training by Region

Tampa Bay: The Best Base (5 Teams)

If you only pick one home base, make it Tampa Bay. The New York Yankees (Tampa), Phillies (Clearwater) and Toronto Blue Jays (Dunedin) are all within about 35 minutes of each other, and the Pirates (Bradenton) and Tigers (Lakeland) are each about an hour away. Stay near Tampa’s Westshore district or the beaches and you can catch a different team almost every day. For hotels, see our hotels near Raymond James Stadium, right across the street from Steinbrenner Field.

Sarasota & Charlotte Harbor (3 Teams)

Just south of Tampa Bay, the Orioles (Sarasota), Braves (North Port) and Rays (Port Charlotte) are all within about 45 minutes of each other. Pair a game with Siesta Key, Anna Maria Island or Venice Beach.

Fort Myers (2 Teams)

The Boston Red Sox play at JetBlue Park, a copy of Fenway complete with its own Green Monster, and the Minnesota Twins play at Hammond Stadium about 20 minutes away. Add Sanibel or Fort Myers Beach for a perfect Gulf Coast week.

Atlantic Coast (5 Teams)

On the east coast, the Mets train in Port St. Lucie, the Cardinals and Marlins share a ballpark in Jupiter, and the Astros and Nationals share one in West Palm Beach. All five are within about an hour of each other, which makes this the best cluster if you’re flying into Palm Beach.

Sample Spring Training Road Trips

  • Tampa Bay weekend (3 days, 3 teams): Yankees in Tampa, Blue Jays in Dunedin, Phillies in Clearwater, plus a beach day in between.
  • Gulf Coast week (7 days, 6+ teams): Start in Dunedin and Clearwater, work south through Tampa, Bradenton and Sarasota, then finish in Fort Myers with the Red Sox and Twins.
  • Red Sox vs. Yankees chase: Catch the rivals on March 9 in Tampa and March 17 in Fort Myers. Details are on our Red Sox page.

Spring Training Tips

  • Book hotels early. March is peak season in Florida, so prices climb and the best spots near the ballparks sell out.
  • Buy tickets for big games first. Yankees, Red Sox and weekend games sell out. Weekday afternoon games are easier.
  • Get there for batting practice. Spring training is the most relaxed chance you’ll get to see players up close.
  • Plan for the sun. Day games in March can feel like summer. Bring sunscreen and a hat, and check the seating map for shade.
  • Check each team’s bag and parking policies. They vary from ballpark to ballpark.

FAQ

When does spring training start in 2027?

Spring training games start February 19, 2027, for all 15 Grapefruit League teams in Florida and run through late March. Opening Day is March 25. MLB’s labor deal expires December 1, 2026, so a lockout could delay the start.

How many MLB teams have spring training in Florida?

Fifteen. Half of Major League Baseball trains in Florida’s Grapefruit League, and the other half trains in Arizona’s Cactus League.

What is the best city for Florida spring training?

Tampa Bay. The Yankees (Tampa), Phillies (Clearwater) and Blue Jays (Dunedin) are all within about 35 minutes of each other, and the Pirates (Bradenton) and Tigers (Lakeland) are about an hour away, so you can see five teams without changing hotels.

Which Florida ballparks host two teams?

Two of them. Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Jupiter is shared by the Cardinals and Marlins, and CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach is shared by the Astros and Nationals. Fort Myers also hosts two teams, the Red Sox and Twins, at separate ballparks.

When should I book a spring training trip?

As early as possible. March is peak season across Florida, so hotels near the ballparks fill up and prices climb. Until MLB and the players sign a new labor deal, stick with refundable rates.
